Sharp or Flat

Classical, pop, rock, hip-hop, and country are just some genres of music that exist in the world.  Some enjoy a variety, while others are loyal to a single genre.  Personally, I enjoy a large variety of music.  Additionally, there are those who despise and dislike the tunes of the world altogether.  Since childhood, music managed to wiggle into any situation that I've come by.  My family, my friends, and my interests all revolve around music.  Knowing the contrasting opinions of music that people have, thoughts wander through my mind concerning their perspective.
Pop music, a short name for popular music, is the genre I enjoy the most.  It is generally associated with rock or hip-hop.  Contrary to this association, pop music can also include classical, jazz, and novelty songs.  Pop music in itself is a variety of genres, which is why it sparks my interest so strongly.  Music is an art, hence the creators are artists.  Different artists can create different forms of art, which appeal to certain audiences.  The creativity involve in making some of the simplest hit songs makes me feel unique, knowing I am a musician myself.
An issue that bothers me is when people are loyal to a certain genre to the point of being ignorant.  Why would a person close their mind to other genres and forms of music?  This infuriates me.  A person who does not to try and listen to new genres could behave the same way in other scenarios.  This can represent fear of change or insecurity.  I have a strong feeling that if these types of people open up to numerous genres of music, they will be able to express endless opinions in infinite ways.
Some hate music altogether.  This idea can make me ponder for hours.  How can somebody not enjoy even one type of music?  This hatred isn't bias either, it can exist is people of any race, background, culture, and lifestyle.  Do they despise music because some sort of experience?  Or were they not exposed to the creativity and beauty of this fine art?  Confusing in so many ways, I do not understand how music can be considered a hindrance rather than a supplement.
Now that I have experienced many different opinions on music, I still dont understand why people could hate it with a burning passion. I understand that people have different opinions but they should at least try to find an interest in it. The way I was raised, music was your personality and nothing could oppose that. I guess not everybody is raised the exact same way.

  1. Your life with music was a great topic choice. However, I feel that your response to this writing topic turned more expository/persuasive in nature with you explaining the musical terms and genres and then trying to persuade people to be open to other genres of writing. Reflective writing's true purpose is for the writer (you) to reflect on your experiences (with music). In your writing you could have described your first encounters with music and touched on several experiences you had in your younger years with music. Then as the reflection, you should discuss how your feelings/attitude/outlook towards music may have changed since your original moments with it.
